Dr. Herb Conaway is running for Congress to make sure New Jersey’s middle-class families can thrive. Through his work as a doctor, legislator and neighbor he understands the needs of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District.
Dr. Conaway knows firsthand the importance of accessible healthcare, including abortion. He has immense experience in counseling patients facing difficult decisions in difficult circumstances. He knows that the government has no place in the exam room. In Congress, he will fight to protect and make healthcare equitable and affordable for everyone. He’ll fight for safe communities, great public schools, access to good jobs and a healthy environment.

Expanded Access to Reproductive Healthcare: In response to the Dobbs decision, Herb fought for individuals' rights by increasing funding and establishing legal protections for those seeking treatment. When Republicans, led by Chris Christie, cut funding for critical reproductive health services, Herb championed the legislation to restore it.

Made Healthcare More Affordable: Herb established the New Jersey program, which provides discounted prescription drugs to low-income seniors through his sponsored law. He also limited insurance companies from imposing cost-sharing for lifesaving medications by advocating for relevant legislation. Most importantly, he brought health insurance within reach of hundreds of thousands by establishing the New Jersey health insurance marketplace, Get Covered.

Protected Our Environment and Drinking Water: Over 20 years ago, Herb urged federal action on lead and supported funding to screen NJ children for lead exposure. He led the initiative to force regulators to screen for persistent chemicals in groundwater and upheld the Paris Climate Accord in New Jersey. For more than a decade, he has been promoting legislation to accelerate the adoption of clean car technology.

Supported Active Service Members, Their Families, and Veterans: During his Air Force service, Herb was stationed at what is now Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. In his private practice, he provided medical care to service members and their families. He has long advocated for the VA to locate additional healthcare services in New Jersey and sponsored numerous bills to improve veterans' healthcare. He also sponsored the law promoting veteran-owned businesses' access to state contracts.

Protected Our Children: Herb raised the smoking age to 21 and eliminated flavors from numerous tobacco products to protect our children from a life-long addiction to nicotine. Herb is a nation-leading voice on the harms of tobacco use, he raised nutritional standards in schools, passed seat belts and bike helmet laws, and established age-appropriate mental health screening in schools. He is now leading the fight to protect our children from the well-established harms of social media use.
